Is money evil?

Is money evil?

Well, let’s take a look at what the Bible actually teaches...

1 Timothy 6:10
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Deuteronomy 8:18
18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

If money was actually evil then how could God contradict Himself in the above Bible verses. One verse states that the love of money is evil and the other tells us that God gives us the power to create wealth.  Well, it’s simple, He did  NOT contradict Himself!

The Bible is very clear the “Love” of money is the root of all evil, not having money itself. The bible also teaches that God is the One that gives us the power to create wealth. God gives us ideas, wisdom, and knowledge on how to increase our wealth.

Now, let's dig a little deeper into what the " Love" of money actually means. According to Webster`s definition, the word " Love" means
n.1.A feeling of strong attachment induced by that which delights or commands admiration; preĆ«minent kindness or devotion to anotheraffectiontendernessasthe love of brothers and sisters.

When someone loves money so much, it becomes their focus, their drive, and a  strong attachment to it is created. Basically, money becomes their first Love, their everything, their drive, and their only desire in life. Money becomes their God and everyone else including God takes the backseat.

Does God want us to have money? Yes!
However, God wants us to have a healthy relationship with money. He does not want it to rule over our lives. God uses the money in this world to meet needs, to reach the poor, needy, and help spread the gospel. Money was never created to stand in a position to be loved and admired! Money was created as a tool for society.

Note this verse...
Matthew 6:24(NKJV)
You Cannot Serve God and Riches
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (money)

We can not serve God and money! One will always end up taking the back seat! Remember to keep money in its right perspective, which is a tool to use in this world. God is the God that will give you the power to create wealth and He alone should be your first LOVE!

3 John 1:2
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers
